Lesson Notes July 30, 2024 (Vocabulary Building)

Words & Phrases

  • The tickets for the final game were already all sold out, so I couldn’t get one.

  • I watched the event until two o’clock in the morning.

  • Two of my co-workers train in England regularly for their equestrian events.

  • Did you manage to catch any of the Opening Ceremonies?

  • My hometown festival includes horseback archery.

    • There were very few spectators at the festival.

  • Over 100 people collapsed at the festival due to heatstroke.

Pronunciation

  • Equestrian ( ɪˈkwɛstrɪən ) e-QUES-tri-an

  • Evaporated ( ɪˌvapəreɪtɪd ) e-va-PO-ra-ted

Appropriacy

  • We only use AM and PM with time, don’t use with the word “o’clock”

  • Audience: is used for people watching or listening to performances or presentations, such as in theatres, concerts, or lectures.

  • Spectators: is used for people watching events, especially sports or public displays

  • Condiments are things like salt, pepper, mustard, sauces that you add to food when you eat it

  • Recipes typically list ingredients with a number (amount / quantity) followed by the measurement and then the food item

  • Add miso to taste

  • Cut the burdock into matchsticks.

  • 1 tablespoon each of sugar, soy sauce, sweet sake

  • (Put / Combine) all seasons into a plastic bag.

  • Combine all ingredients. (NOT condiments)

  • Parboil; partly cook (food) by boiling or microwave
