Words & Phrases

  • I went to the dentist this morning. I try to go every four months to get my teeth checked.

    • After the lesson I have to visit the orthopaedist.

    • I need to visit the massage therapist.

  • Going to the movies is the best way to beat the summer heat.

    • How far in advance can I buy a movie ticket?

    • How early can I buy a movie ticket?

  • The pool was shallower than usual today. (Adj; little depth)

Appropriacy

  • In everyday usage, it is common to refer to the specialist by their title (“dentist / orthopaedist / massage therapist“) rather than describing the practice or field (“dentistry / orthopaedics / massage therapy“).

  • Rich

    • (of food) containing a large amount of fat, spices, sugar

    • (of drink) full-bodied

  • Pepper; can either mean black pepper (uncountable) or hot peppers (countable)

  • Sour describes the taste of acidic food such as lemon, vinegar etc

  • I ate ice cream today as a reward for swimming a lot.

  • Have you ever eaten shaved ice?

  • Pungent; having a sharply strong taste or smell

  • Pescatarian; a person who does not eat meat but does eat fish

  • Vegan; a person who does not eat any food derived from animals and who typically does not use other animal products
